IS IT REALLY SO HARD TO JUST DO LIFE RIGHT?
Today, I contacted a repair company for an appointment to repair or replace a 25-year-old item in my home. I had mentioned to the customer service rep that I preferred to replace the item. When the repairman arrived, he advised that he could repair the item for almost twice the amount it would cost to replace it! When I advised him I wasn’t interested, he proceeded to high-pressure me with other ridiculously deceptive options, thinking perhaps I would fall for one of those. He was so determined to pressure me into accepting one of his alternatives that I had to ask him to leave.
I have experienced this with other repair services several times in my life (especially with car repairs). Do repairmen think that women or seniors are so naïve that we will fall for anything? Do they think we have not already experienced this so many times that we can’t recognize it? Did he think I had not already had other quotes, that I had not checked around to see what the cost would be for a new item? Did he think I was so naïve and vulnerable that he would win with his deceptive tactics?
Is it really so difficult to just do life right? To be honest, accountable, and treat people fairly? Does it make someone feel good about themselves when they don’t? These things have a habit of coming back on people…karma.
He wasted my time, but I ruined his day. And when his company called to follow up on the appointment, I told them the truth….bet that really ruined his day!
